Custom made to measure

Ball gown wedding dresses

A ball gown wedding dress pairs a fitted bodice with a dramatically full skirt, usually built from layers of tulle or a structured fabric like satin or mikado. Lace & Liberty ball gowns and statement skirts are made to your measurements, and a dress can have as many as eight thoughtfully chosen layers.

The flowing tiered tulle skirt creates a dreamy, romantic silhouette for the modern bride

Ball Gown Wedding Dresses: frequently asked questions

What is a ball gown wedding dress?

A ball gown wedding dress has a fitted bodice and a very full skirt that starts at the waist. The volume comes from layers of tulle, netting or structured fabrics such as satin and mikado.

What is the difference between a ball gown and an A-line?

An A-line skirt flares gently from the waist, while a ball gown skirt is far fuller from the start. Compare styles on our A-line wedding dresses page.

Can I get a ball gown skirt as a separate?

Yes. Statement skirts like the Wonderland, Daydream, Celebration and Dream skirts can be paired with different tops, or with a jumpsuit for a 2-in-1 look.

Can I customize a ball gown wedding dress from your collection?

Yes. Every dress is made in your own measurements and proportions. Based on any existing design we can change the neckline shape, choose a different lining color, add removable sleeves and straps, add support, specify the train length and more.

How much does a custom ball gown wedding dress cost?

Lace & Liberty custom gowns range from $1,500 to $5,500, and most brides spend $2,000–$3,500. Customizations to an existing collection design start at $250. Get a personalized number with our price estimate.

How long does it take to make a custom ball gown wedding dress?

Our standard turnaround is about 6 months from the date you order, including consultations, design finalization, production edits and shipping. Rush options of 18, 12 or 8 weeks ($250, $450 or $600) may be available depending on our production schedule and fabric availability. See timing & rush orders.
